product description
Dragonfly Cape Malay Rooibos Chai combines the delicious and soothing taste of naturally caffeine-free rooibos (aspalathus linearis) with a unique traditional blend of aromatic spices, including cinnamon, cardamom, chicory and cloves.

Cape Town was founded in the 17th Century as a staging post for sailing shiips carrying tea, spices, porcelain and silk from China, India and the East Indies to Europe. This tea is inspired by Cape Town’s wonderfully rich Cape Malay culinary tradition with its origins in Indonesia, Holland and India.

All the ingredients are organically grown and include rooibos tea, cinnamon, cardomom, ginger, chicory, cloves, black pepper and citrus peel.

All Dragonfly rooibos teas are still cured in the traditional way, as it was when Benjamin Ginsberg founded rooibos. The process takes place in the crisp air of the Cedarberg Mountains of South Africa's Cape. It requires great skill to know when the cure is at its peak; one sign is that it begins to give off a delicious sweet aroma that attracts wild bees.

Dragonfly rooibos teas are naturally caffeine free, so they can be enjoyed at any time of day and are suitable for the whole family. Rooibos is rich in antioxidants and AHAs, long valued for fresh glowing skin, gently rehydrating and low in tannin.

Directions: Infuse a sachet in freshly boiled water for 2-4 minutes. Delicious with or without milk or as an iced tea. Sweeten with sugar or honey to taste.

expert comment…

Rooibos has a pleasing mild taste and a colour similar to a black tea. It comes from the shrubbery South African ‘red bush’ rather than the Asian tea bush and is low in tannin and caffeine free. Most rooibos has been fermented like black tea and can be served either plain or with milk and sweetener.

Tea

Green tea and black tea both come from the same plant, the oriental tree bush, Camellia sinensis. Black tea mainly comes from India and is fermented turning it dark and creating the characteristics tannin-rich flavour. Green tea usually comes from ...
