This policy is intended to assist Planet Organic in putting these commitments into practice. It is unlawful to discriminate, directly or indirectly, in employment on grounds of nine protected characteristics; age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race or ethnicity or national origins, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation. It is unlawful to discriminate, directly or indirectly, in the provision of goods, facilities or services to customers on grounds of any of the nine protected characteristics.

At Planet Organic we are proud to have employees from over forty different countries and of different races, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs or other ideologies. We want to ensure that all of our employees, customers and other stakeholders feel that Planet Organic is a safe and positive environment. We therefore strictly follow the law and do not tolerate any form of derogatory comments or discriminatory behaviour relating to these characteristics.

Every employee is required to assist Planet Organic in meeting our commitment to provide equal opportunities in employment and avoid unlawful discrimination. Employees can be held personally liable as well as, or instead of, Planet Organic for any act of unlawful discrimination. Employees who commit serious acts of harassment may be guilty of a criminal offence.
 
Acts of discrimination, harassment, bullying or victimisation against employees or customers are disciplinary offences and will be dealt with under Planet Organic’s disciplinary procedure. Discrimination, harassment, bullying or victimisation may constitute gross misconduct and could lead to dismissal without notice. The term equality and diversity refers specifically to our legal obligation to protect our employees, our customers and other stakeholders from discrimination in the workplace and ensure that everyone who enters a Planet Organic store is treated with the same level of respect and courtesy. It also refers to our desire to support and promote these values in the communities around our stores and London as a whole.

Planet Organic has joined leading companies from a range of sectors and industries in signing the Inclusive Culture Pledge in 2020, an initiative managed by diversity consultancy The EW Group.
 
Joining the Pledge is a public commitment that we take diversity and inclusion at Planet Organic seriously and that we understand the need to provide our employees with a safe, fair and supportive place to work. We’re looking forward to the events provided by The EW Group as part of the pledge that will build our internal capacity in 2020 and ensure we work at the cutting edge of diversity and inclusion. This is an initiative we believe will benefit our staff, customers and all stakeholders.
