For vegetables, example portions include 4 heaped tablespoons of cooked kale, spinach, spring greens or green beans or three heaped tablespoons of carrots, peas or sweetcorn. A medium tomato or 1.5 sticks of celery count too. 3 heaped tablespoons of baked beans, haricot beans, kidney beans, cannellini beans, butter beans, chickpeas or equivalent equal a portion as well.

What is the best organic fruit or vegetable for smoothies?
A daily unsweetened 100% fruit juice, vegetable juice or smoothie counts as a portion of your 5-a-day. They also are an excellent way to top up with key nutrients, vitamins and minerals. Recommended smoothie ingredients include spinach and kale, mild-tasting yet packed with vitamins and minerals, and blueberries which have one of the highest antioxidant levels of all fruit, Strawberries are a great source of vitamin C while being low in natural sugars. Banana adds creaminess and sweetness to smoothies while being rich in potassium and fibre.
You might want to add additional fresh ingredients such as turmeric, as an anti-inflammatory or ginger as an aid to digestion. Add seeds such as chia and flaxseeds that are rich in Omega-3 too.
