Tofu Asparagus with Umami Rich Miso Sauce

Asparagus is one of our fresh seasonal products this May. To celebrate this unique vegetable, we asked the wonderful people at Clearspring to share their favourite asparagus dish.


Clearspring’s Tofu Asparagus recipe is not only delicious and easy to make but is a great way to add some greens and protein to your diet.


The mix of fresh asparagus and tofu, served with an umami-rich dressing tastes incredible. You can enjoy this dish as a light lunch or as a side served alongside your main.


Perfect for sunny al fresco dining!


You can also tailor this recipe with the addition of your own choice of greens.


Another version:


“This dish is a perfect way to add more greens and protein into your meals. You can replace the asparagus with any green vegetables which you can steam or boil if you don't want to cook it in oil. For garnish we like to sprinkle of any type of sea vegetables and irigoma toasted sesame seeds to create a well-balanced dish.”





Serves 2 - 4 (as a side dish)

Preparation time - 15min


  • 1 pack Clearspring Organic Japanese Tofu - Silken & Smooth 
  • 2 tsp Clearspring Organic sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp grated Ginger
  • 1 clove of Garlic - sliced
  • a hand full Asparagus or a bunch of any other green vegetables


For the dressing:






1. In a large frying pan, heat the sesame oil over a medium heat, then add ginger and garlic. Take the ends off the asparagus and add to the frying pan. Let it cook till tender, which is usually around 2-5 minutes depending on the thickness of the asparagus. Add a splash of water to the pan is the asparagus is still hard. Once tender, place asparagus on a large plate.

2. In a jar, mix all the dressing ingredients. Chop the spring onion and chilli for garnish.

3. Open the Silken Tofu pack, drain the water and place the block on a chopping board. Cut the tofu into 1-2cm. Carefully place the tofu on top of the asparagus.

4. Pour the dressing generously over the asparagus and Tofu.

5. Sprinkle over Clearspring Igiroma Toasted Sesame Seeds and tear small pieces of Clearspring Seaveg Crispies
