This month is a nationwide celebration of all things organic, offering a moment to explore the incredible food, drink and wellness products that are better for us and for the planet. It’s also a time for us to shine a light on the rigorous work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure the integrity of the organic label.
At Planet Organic, our story is deeply intertwined with the pioneers who champion a better way of farming and producing. We work with trusted certifications across the world and a key partner on this journey has been the Soil Association, the UK’s leading organic certifier. For decades, they have been instrumental in building a system of food and farming that is based on the principles of health, ecology, fairness and care. We were the first store to be certified with the Soil Association Certification and you’ll find the Soil Association symbol on the majority of the products we champion.
What Do Certified Organic Symbols Mean?
When you see the organic symbol on a product, it’s more than just a logo. It’s a guarantee. It signifies that the product has met some of the highest organic standards in the world. These certifications are an end-to-end process, covering every step of the journey from the soil to your shelf.
The standards champion sustainable practices that protect our climate and wildlife. In fact, organic farms in the UK are home to up to 50% more wildlife and are a haven for bees, butterflies and birds. The Soil Association's standards also ban the use of GMOs and manufactured herbicides or artificial fertilisers. For livestock, they ensure the highest level of animal welfare.
